Not every wound heals with conservative care alone. While holistic assessment and host optimization are foundational, some wounds reach a point where procedural intervention becomes the turning point between stagnation and healing. The challenge for clinicians is determining when to escalate care surgically and when continued conservative therapy remains appropriate.

This episode examines how surgical and bedside procedural approaches—including debridement, incision and drainage, offloading procedures, tissue reconstruction, and biologic graft placement—can be strategically used to alter the wound environment and accelerate healing. Faculty will discuss real-world cases in which procedural decisions prevented limb loss, shortened healing timelines, or corrected mechanical barriers to recovery.

Participants will learn how to integrate surgical judgment into multidisciplinary wound care, identify clinical scenarios where procedural intervention is indicated, and understand how surgical decision-making fits within the broader philosophy of holistic wound management.
